Saizen promotes the growth of bones, cells, and organs. Clinical research indicates that it leads to a reduction in body fat along with an increase in bone development and muscle mass.

 

The bacteriostatic water included with Saizen contains the preservative benzyl alcohol, which should be avoided in newborns and individuals with known sensitivity to benzyl alcohol. For such patients, Saizen can be reconstituted using Sterile Water for Injection, USP. If reconstituted this way, it must be used right away, and any remaining portion should be discarded. Growth hormone may lead to insulin resistance and should be administered cautiously to patients with diabetes mellitus or those with a family history of the condition. Inform your physician about any diabetes in the patient's family. Saizen is contraindicated for patients with active malignant or benign tumors. Those with a cancer history should be closely monitored.

 

In clinical trials involving children with growth hormone deficiency treated with Saizen, the following side effects were rarely observed: pain, numbness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone levels), hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), seizures, water retention, and worsening of pre-existing psoriasis symptoms.

 

Patients with growth hormone deficiency who do not respond to treatment should be assessed for thyroid issues or antibodies to human growth hormone, as either condition can diminish the efficacy of Saizen.
